Dear trait d’union editors,

maybe sometimes you are disappointed not seeing any comment on your article. This is really a pity, because fair comments are one of the main instruments of the intercultural communication within this project. However, not receiving comments on the own articles and not commenting on the others are only the two sides of the same coin. So everybody should write interesting comments (not only writing “Great job!” or “Well done, guy, continue like this!”) on the articles of your colleagues especially of different countries. And try to awaken your partners’ interest to comment on your text asking specific questions at the end of your article, for example inviting to compare the circumstances, attitudes or opinions in/of different countries/generations as to the topic of the article. Ideally, comments lead to new discussions or even to new common projects.

But the lack of comments may also have technical reasons. If the option “Allow comments” is not ticked of, it is impossible to comment on your article (“Comments closed.”) So, please, check in your dashboard whenever you have written a new article, whether the option “Allow comments” is ticked of. If not, tick it of. I wish you a lot of interesting comments.

If you want to comment on an article, where the comments are closed, you can send a message to its author, asking him to allow comments.

Die BEGEGNUNG, das Magazin der deutschen schulischen Arbeit im Ausland, herausgegeben im Auftrag des Auswärtigen Amtes (des deutschen Außenministeriums) und der Zentralstelle für das Auslandsschulwesen (ZfA) im Bundesverwaltungsamt, beschäftigt sich in der Ausgabe 1-2012 mit dem Thema „Schule, Karriere, Zukunft“. Auf den Seiten 26 ff. enthält das Heft einen dreiseitigen Artikel von Gudrun Hüther über trait d’union. Die Journalistin führte dazu im Dezember 2011 ein Interview mit Lothar Thiel, dem Projektleiter. Leider konnten aus Platzgründen nicht alle Informationen, die er Frau Hüther gab, verarbeitet werden, z.B.  über die jüngsten Comenius-Projekte und die teilnehmenden Schulen. Dennoch ist ein sehr informativer Artikel über unsere internationale Schülerzeitung entstanden, der in allen deutschen Auslandsschulen, an die die Hefte verschickt werden, und natürlich auch im Internet gelesen werden kann. Schulen, die an den (kostenlosen) Heften interessiert sind, können sich direkt an die Zentralstelle für das Auslandsschulwesen wenden.

Im Schuljahr 2012/13 wird es an den deutschen Auslandsschulen erstmals ein Zentralabitur geben. Dies erforderte natürlich eine Angleichung in den Lehrplänen der (potentiellen) Abiturfächer, so genannte Kerncurricula, wobei “von Deutschland” aber durchaus Raum gegeben wurde, ihnen regionale Besonderheiten und Akzentssetzungen der einzelnen Schulen hinzuzufügen. Im Rahmen der Beratungen in den Fachschaften Deutsch, Englisch und Geschichte an der Deutschen Schule Bilbao wurde auch über ein optionales Modul Interkulturelle Kompetenz diskutiert. Als Bestandteil des Curriculums Geschichte könnte es wie folgt strukturiert sein:

Zusammenfassung

Interkulturelle Kompetenz (IK), verstanden als Fähigkeit eines Individuums, in multikulturellen Beziehungssystemen erfolgreich zu interagieren, ist heutzutage sowohl in Alltagssituationen zunehmend multikultureller Gesellschaften, als auch in der internationalen beruflichen Zusammenarbeit zu einer Schlüsselqualifikation geworden. Während deren rein kognitive Vermittlung nur Teilbereiche abdeckt, erlaubt ein internationales Schulprojekt komplexere Lernprozesse. In der Kooperation von Schulen verschiedener Länder können im Rahmen des Geschichtsunterrichts historische Prozesse (z.B. Wandel der gesellschaftlichen Position und des Selbstverständnisses von Mann bzw. Frau, nationale Stereotypen und Vorurteile) multiperspektivisch, zeit- und kulturvergleichend erarbeitet und in einem gemeinsam erstellten Produkt (z.B. einer Online-Schülerzeitung oder einer Ausstellung an den teilnehmenden Schulen) präsentiert werden. Die vom Schüler erworbene interkulturelle Kompetenz, die sich sowohl auf Wissen über unterschiedliche Kulturen, als auch auf die im Projekt erworbenen Erfahrungen mit interkultureller Kooperation bezieht, kann abschließend zertifiziert werden.

Den zentral vorgegebenen Kerncurricula folgten Regionalcurricula (eine Region ist beispielsweise Spanien und Portugal) und nun sind die einzelnen Schulen aufgefordert, durch Hinzufügung eines sogenannten Additums Schulcurricula zu erstellen. Warum nicht in den Sprachen, den geistes- und gesellschaftlichen Fächern ein Additum “Interkulturelle Kompetenz”? Dazu müssten mehrere Deutsche Auslandsschulen sich auf ein Projekt einigen. Das vorhandene administrative Netz der Deutschen Auslandsschulen könnte sich so almählich zu eine weltumspannenden Plattform für interkulturellen Austausch und zum Medium der Vermittlung interkultureller Kompetenz entwickeln. Eine Zwischenbilanz der Projektentwicklung

Vorbemerkung

Die Anerkennung interkultureller Kompetenz (IK) als Schlüsselqualifikation im Zeitalter der Globalisierung ist heute weit verbreitet. Die Fähigkeit von Personen mit unterschiedlichen kulturellen Hintergründen, erfolgreich zu interagieren, ist nicht nur für die sich immer multikultureller zusammensetzenden Gesellschaften, sondern auch für die zunehmend internationalisierte Berufs- und Geschäftswelt von grundlegender Bedeutung.

Dennoch haftet dem Terminus IK etwas Schwammiges an; teils wird in ihm lediglich ein Wissen über Sitten und Gebräuche in anderen Ländern gesehen, teils wird er auf die Bereitschaft zu Toleranz gegenüber Fremdheit und Fremden bzw. Freundlichsein zu Ausländern reduziert. Diese Konzepte (und andere ähnliche, nicht falsche, aber fragmentarische) tragen der Komplexität multikultureller Interaktionssituationen nicht genügend Rechnung, was nicht nur problematische Erfahrungen im Bereich des Schüleraustauschs zeigen.

Intentionen

Wenn bei der Aufstellung der Ziele interkulturellen Lernens das Zertifikat fast an erster Stelle genannt wird, so wird damit das Pferd nur scheinbar vom Schwanz her aufgezäumt. Das Zertifikat dokumentiert den jeweils erreichten Output eines auf Kompetenz und insofern auch auf Wissen abzielenden interkulturellen Lernprozesses, aus dem sich die Elemente des zu ihm führenden Lern- und Evaluationskonzepts fast zwangsläufig ergeben. A new Comenius Project – “Our world is changing” – has begun and a lot of new students and teachers are for the first time in the trait d’union Editorial Office. Being the trait d’union Project Manager (not the Comenius General Coordinator – this is Mrs. Bozena Cudak from Kraków, Poland!) I want to tell you some rules & hints for the use of this platform (created in 2010). If – for whatever reason – these rules were not respected, from now on I feel free to correct ‘mistakes’ – for 2 reasons:

1. The trait d’union Editorial Office is not only a platform for the international teamwork, but also an online magazine, visible all over the world. So it has to correspond to some basic  aesthetic principles.
2. I am teacher, no professional webmaster. So I don’t have the time to ask every editor whether he agrees that I correct for example an orthopraphic mistake. Of course I don’t change the contents. But perhaps I add a picture, if the article doensn’t contain one. Then you are free to change it, but not to remove it without putting an alternative.

And now some basic information, especially (but not only) for the new members who joined trait d’union only recently:

• The trait d’union Editorial Office (EO) is a virtual platform for the communication and cooperation of our editors. But it is also a kind of public showroom: Every internet user in the whole world can watch your work in progress!
• Being open to non-members too (however, they can only read), the front page of the trait d’union EO is at the same time the entrance into the online edition of our magazine. Showing the beginning of each text – of at least 21 words! – that you post within your blog, it should start therefore indicating the name/s of the author/s and the town+country where they are from. (See above!)
• The headline has to be put into the headline field – not into the text field! Otherwise the title of your article cannot be seen within any list, and it will not be shown on the front page!
• It should contain as well at least one picture (photo, drawing, statistic or the like) in the landscape (horizontal) format, because this one will be automatically shown on the frontpage. (It doesn’t work with vertical or quadratic formats, PowerPoint or embedded videos!) See the detailed explanation of Mr. Tim Bormann! The front page must contain eye-catchers, so please like this:

• Please use only pictures made by yourselves or at least public domain pictures like from Wikipedia! By the way: Never do here “copy & paste” with foreign contents, for example texts already published in the internet (except where the author has given you the right to do so)!
• If want to post only a little information like “Hi, our group arrived yesterday in X. We are so happy to be here.”, this should not be posted within your blog, but put on a wire. You can choose between many different wires, and accordingly to the respective recipient/s of your message, try to use the most suitable one! You can put your (public) communication on your own wire or on the wire of another member. There are also school team wires, exchange-group wires, topical wires, International Editorial Team wires etc.
• A lot of – important – activities, like public messages posted on the group wires, are not shown on the front page. So each member who really wants to work together with his friends from the other schools should look at least every two ore three days into the editors’ column Activity!
• Each member should only use one blog, entitled with his first name/s and his family name/s. Inside this post you can post as many articles as you like! So don’t create new blogs for each topic! This would not only overcharge technically this EO, it would be as well become quite confusing for everybody.
• For each article there has to be put a link by the author on the wire of his school team and on the wire of the group to which is topically related. Otherwise after some time it will be impossible to retrieve the articles! They would be lost for the printed edition of trait d’union “Do You Understand Me?”! So, even for the contributions made during the first project year: Each active member is solicited to put this double link!!!
• Please help to improve the dialog culture of our project, giving your constructive comments on the articles of your partners! You can express your opinion about them, you can even enlarge them, for example by adding some pictures to a text. Of course, even a critical comment must always be fair and never arrogant or even insulting! Comments like “Well done! Great job!” are pleasant, but they don’t really advance the contribution on which they are related.

Dear friends,

the deadline for the chapters edition is near. It is highly important to send me now the WORD files of the chapter outlines by mail. I will send them immediately to the coordinators and/or the students responsable for the release of the school team contribution. Please complete the questionnaire As to the editing of trait d’union 2011 immediately and send it to me!

Of course you can give the answer to the question n° 6 only after having read the edited chapters. (Therefore sending them to me asap is really crucial!) Each school team itself is responsible for the control and the securing that no article of its members was overseen in the edition of the chapters!
